Overview
One of our favourite places to visit down the prom. Tongue point is a lovely point to hang out for snack on the boulders as you watch the rock pools, birds, and sometimes seal playing in the water in front. If you walk from Darby River you'll also have the opportunity to experience Fair Cove, a cute little beach on low tide.
How to get there
There are two entries to Tongue Point, one via Darby River, the second via Darby Saddle.
1. Darby River to Tongue Point is steep walk from the carpark as it climbs the bush covered dune, but does taper off to be a pleasant stroll from there. A fantastic stop along the way is Fairy Cove. A secluded beach thats well worth a dip in the ocean, this is best enjoyed on low tide when there is sand, on high tide the waves break up against the rocks. See Wilsons Prom tides for daily high and low times.
2. Darby Saddle to Tongue Point, car park here. This is a easier entry into Tongue Point. Walking along the top of Whiskey Bay, be sure to stop at Sparks Lookout and take in the view of Norman Island.
Snacks, and supplies
Always take snacks, its one of the best parts of hiking. Depending on your walking speed, its about 1.5 to 2 hours walk, take some water with you.
Coming from both sides. The first half offers tree shade, as make your way into the second half of the work out towards the point, trees shy away, you want a jacket in winter and a hat in summer. There are toilets at Darby River, no toilets at Darby Saddle or Tongue Point itself.
